Description
Though Western genre films have faded in popularity over the past 20-30 years, this is one title which maintains iconic status & collectability. Based on Kurosawa's film "Seven Samurai" (1954), director John Sturges transported the action from Japan to Mexico. Though Yul Brynner had top-billing, Steve McQueen's stage presence threatened to usurp him & much manoeuvring between the two on set ensued. Nonetheless, McQueen was still a relative newcomer without huge Box office clout & this is why a photo of Horst Buchholz was preferred instead on the poster. The poster design employs a sense of perspective & a graduated title in order to conjure up a sense of action, movement & suspense. This is another example of a film blessed with a superb soundtrack, composed by Elmer Bernstein. This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
