Description
A classy poster for this superb Drama with a rites of passage theme & an examination of middle class manners & mores in late 1960's America. The poster design is based on an actual shot from the film where the gauche graduate "Benjamin" (Dustin Hoffman) watches "Mrs. Robinson" (Ann Bancroft) unrolling her stocking. This is a key scene in the film & conveniently would have tantalised & intrigued passer-bys who saw the poster. Being printed post-Oscars, the poster carries a credit for the award of "Best Director" to Mike Nichols. Posters would frequently carry script relating to Oscar nominations & awards such as this, the Oscar association being a valuable marketing asset. This is a first release poster, shown by the film carrying it's original "X" certificate (bottom right). The film was later released in a "AA" rated version with a few small cuts after the X-rated version had been fully circulated. The poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
