Description
A really arresting image on this poster for this low-budget Anglo-French B-movie. Beautifully filmed by Jack Cardiff, the film starred Marianne Faithful (at the time Mick Jagger's girlfriend) & Alain Delon. Faithfull leaves her husband & is shown riding across France & Germany to meet her lover (Faithfull is shown on a Harley Davidson Electra Glide & Delon rides a 750cc Norton Atlas). A series of flashbacks are utilised & Cardiff's camera lingers long on Ms Faithfull's leathers. The poster design picks up on this theme & features a photograph of Ms Faithfull's curvaceous midriff. Though the poster is over 40 years old, it maintains a very contemporary look. Up until the late 1980's - very early 1990's, the majority of cinema posters were created from original painted artwork but "modern" poster designs are now invariably based on photographic images. Interestingly, a 2nd B-style Quad Poster was also produced, featuring more traditional artwork & this resulted in a radically different poster illustration (image courtesy of www.moviepostermem.com). "Girl On A Motorcycle" was a fairly avant-garde film (it pre-dates "Easy Rider" by one year) & hence outside the main metropolitan centres & specialist arts cinemas, it was not widely seen. The relatively low print-run & powerful & sexy imagery have resulted in this becoming a very difficult poster to find. For a welter of further information on this cult classic, please see "Cinema Retro" Magazine #14 (www.cinemaretro.com). The poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
